BBC not impressed with Led Zep
Documents from the BBC's archive reveal that a panel of producers invited the group to audition but didn't like what they heard.
One panel member said the band were "specialist listening only", while another described them as "derivative" and "unconvincing"and according to a third, the group had "an old-fashioned" sound.
Undeterred, Led Zep went on to become one of the biggest rock acts ever, with album sales in excess of 300 million. although the band officially split in 1980, they reformed most recently in front of almost 20,000 fans at London's 02 arena in December 2007.
