Barney's war on terror?
The musicians - including Rage Against The Machine, REM and Pearl Jam - are filing a lawsuit in a bid to declassify documents on the use of the music and are joining a National Campaign to close the facility.
A 2004 Defence Department report cited by the collective detailed an interrogation method known as the "futility" technique, which included playing the music of Metallica and Britney Spears to detainees.
The list of music alleged to have been used includes tracks by AC/DC, Neil Diamond and the Bee Gees, plus the themes from children's TV shows Barney and Sesame Street.

According to the book "The Men Who Stare at Goats" the music was played to one Guantanamo detainee who thought they were just being nice. He was from Britain and couldn't work out what the aim of playing western music on a portable cd player would achieve. The Iraqi prison music torture is much more sinister though.
An artist's work should not be used for such political and controversial purposes without consent. Those at Guantanamo probably realise that if they did ask for permission they would probably never get it, so they just go ahead and use it anyway and hope nobody objects.
