It's not unusual for music stars to put in their 2 cents' worth on weighty political issues, but Queen guitarist Brian May has thrown his weight behind...badgers.

May has joined animal charity the Badger Trust in applying to the High Court for a judicial review of the proposed cull in rural Wales, which is aimed at combating bovine TB infection.

A farming union said May's involvement was a "cynical publicity stunt."

May has said the cull is based on "bad science" and called it "genocide."

"Badgers are not British - they belong to the world" he said.
