A judging panel including the likes of Peter Gabriel, Tom Waits, Ben Harper, Jeff Beck and Ben Folds gave the nod to Aussie artists in 15 of the 66 categories, making them second only to the US in the musical medal tally.
Basement Birds, Washington, Paul Dempsey, Glenn Richards and Children Collide were amongst the Aussies placed either first, second or third in their respective categories, with Kasey Chambers taking out the 25 thousand dollar top prize for her song Beautiful Mess.

Basement Birds is an Australian indie group composed of Kavyen Temperley (Eskimo Joe's frontman and bassist), Steve Parkin (solo singer/songwriter), Kevin Mitchell (Jebediah, aka Bob Evans) and solo singer/songwriter Josh Pyke.
