Aretha Franklin has cancer
A close friend of the 68 year old revealed the news to a Detroit TV station and said the singer is doing "OK".
Franklin recently underwent surgery for an undisclosed illness, saying in a statement last week: "The surgery was highly successful. God is still in control. I had superb doctors and nurses whom were blessed by all the prayers of the city and the country."
The Grammy-winner rose to fame during the 1960s with hits such as 'Chain of Fools' and 'Respect'.
She has cancelled all her appearances until May 2011 due to "medical reasons". No official statement has been made confirming the cancer.
