Temper Trap
Jun 22, 2010 Updated Jun 23, 2010

The Temper Trap and Empire Of The Sun have won big at the 2010 APRA Awards.

Melbourne four-piece The Temper Trap's Sweet Disposition won them the prestigious Song of the Year title at the annual ceremony held in Sydney last night.

They beat fellow nominees Kate Miller-Heidke, Troy Cassar-Daley, Sarah Blasko and Empire Of The Sun to take out the gong.

But electro-poopers Empire Of The Sun didn't go home empty-handed...their single, Walking On A Dream, beat off opposition from The Presets, Sneaky Sound System and Zoe Badwi to take out the Dance Work of the Year title. Band members Luke Steele and Nick Littlemore, as well as collaborator Jonathan Sloan, also won the Breakthrough Songwriter of the Year award ahead of Jessica Mauboy, Daniel Merriweather, Lisa Mitchell and The Temper Trap.

Aussie rockers AC/DC won the Songwriter of the Year prize, as well as Most Played Australian Work Overseas, for their single Rock N Roll Train off their 2008 Black Ice album.

It was also a big night for Eskimo Joe, whose song Foreign Land won them awards for Rock Work of the Year and Most Played Australian Work.

The Fray's You Found Me won International Work of the Year, while Hilltop Hoods won Urban Work of the Year for their big hit Still Standing.

Blues and Roots Work of the Year was taken out by Ash Grunwald's Breakout.

The Country Work of the Year was won by Big Big Love by Cassar-Daley.

Indigenous country crooner Jimmy Little's career, spanning more than half a century, was honoured with the 73-year-old receiving the Ted Albert award for outstanding service to Australian music.
