The Cambridge-based foursome, who got together back in 2007 at Leeds University, won the $30,000 prize for their debut album An Awesome Wave, fending off competition from the likes of Richard Hawley, Django Django and Michael Kiwanuka.
The band's album, featuring the polarising vocal stylings of frontman Joe Newman, achieved chart success largely by word of mouth rather than any strategised marketing campaign.
The band are due Down Under to play the Laneway Festival circuit in February next year.

Comments
Downloaded An Awesome Wave about two weeks ago and have played it almost constantly ever since. Great range of musical influences on the one set. Very infectious melodies, great percussion, eclectic and strangely dark lyrics. A really good package that could almost be a bit contrived - but I am more than willing to give them the benefit of the doubt. An awesome debut!
