All hail The Pickle

Canadian rockers Nickelback are locked in a Facebook popularity contest with a deli delicacy...and they're losing.

At the time of writing, 1,423,022 fans have declared their love for Nickelback by subscribing to the band's official Facebook page, whilea coalition of 1,490,327 lovers of cured cucumbers have joined a group called "Can this pickle get more fans than Nickleback?".

"Salute the almighty pickle!" exclaimed the campaign's founder Coral Anne, who launched the page less than a month ago, and was forced to amend the spelling of the band's name to avoid legal wrangles.

While Nickelback have yet to issue an official response, band frontman Chad Kroeger has reportedly sent an ominous message to the pickle-backers, warning "Your page will be closing in two weeks."

No news yet as to whether the pickle has any album or tour plans in the works...

Nickelback is a Canadian rock band from Hanna, Alberta. Since 1995 the band has included guitarist and lead vocalist Chad Kroeger, guitarist and back-up vocalist Ryan Peake and bassist Mike Kroeger. The band's current drummer and percussionist is Daniel Adair who has been with the band since 2005, replacing drummer Ryan Vikedal who was with the band since 1998-2005.
