Emmylou Harris
Nov 30, 2010 Updated Dec 22, 2010

We have tickets to give away to Emmylou Harris and her Red Dirt Boys, in her first Australian shows in more than a decade.

Performing at the State Theatre on January 9 and 10 as part of the 2011 Sydney Festival, ABC Dig Music has nabbed three double passes to give away.

Emmylou's massive discography consists of twenty four studio albums, plus live releases, compilations and endless collaborations.  She has worked with the cream of the music industry, starting way back with Gram Parsons and most recently touring with Patty Griffin, Shawn Colvin, and Buddy Miller.

For your opportunity to win one of our double passes, all you need to do is tell us what you think makes Emmylou such a music icon...

The prize is tickets only, you must be able to make your own way to the State Theatre in Sydney.

This competition is now closed.

The winners are:

Dennis Aitken -  A true songbird who has over several decades, inspired many other vocalists to carry on the message of truth, love, happiness, family and togetherness. I think Catherine Britt says it quite nicely, in her tribute with the song "Sweet Emmylou". I first heard Emmylou at the tender age of thirteen, and have been huge fan ever since; I am now 'fifty something'. Emmylou Harris truly is "Sweet Emmylou".

Joann Hilder - Emmylou Harris has worked with most of music's most successful and integral music artists, and her own career not only spans several decades, but transcends traditional genres. Harris has made having a vast and varied musical career in a world of changing tastes and styles seem as pedestrian and effortless as holding down the same job as a waitress in a diner for your whole working life. As if it were just that easy. We all know that this ability to flow effortlessly across the ages of rock and roll, across both country and jazz, across both blues and bluegrass is not that easy, but you'd never know it by the way this classy lady performs. She has both underpinned and overarched the music industry worldwide with such subtlety and grace, most people will never recognise her influence. They think it's just always been this way. But Emmylou Harris has influenced everyone from Bob Dylan to Amy Grant, and has performed with everyone from Dolly Parton to Roy Orbison. If God had sent a music teacher to earth, it would have to be Emmylou Harris.

Pam McAlister - Emmylou Harris is an icon because of her longevity, style, grace and kindness. Having been performing for about forty years, she continues to learn and mentor new talent. Her award winning music has been included in numerous movie soundtracks due to its continued relevance and her unique voice. Professional musicians and fans alike love and respect her, a reflection of how she shares her talent and treats others.

We hope you enjoy the show!
