Liesl Harper, Qld
Paul Kelly's music is the wine that fills the cup of silence. He writes the poetry that is Australian culture, love affairs, country and political feeling.  He engages with all Aussie people especially our minority groups. His ability to make music with different musicians and different bands represents a maturity and growth of ability, talent and passion to keep making music. He is not afraid to play anywhere, anytime, big, small, huge audiences and venues. He is quintessentially Australian in his music, modesty, humility, and love for our country.

Paul Kelly has a habit
He keeps writing heaps of songs;
Like To Her Door and Dumb Things,
Bradman, and Before Too Long.
He hasn’t played in just one band,
There’s actually been lots.
Most notably the Coloured Girls,
The Messengers, and Dots.
He’s Australia’s poet laureate,
He’s Adelaide’s best son,
But from all his contributions,
I can’t narrow it to one.
To say what’s meant the most
Just makes my memory all wavy;
So I’ll go out on a limb and say:
Harmonicas, and gravy.

Suzanna Paull, SA
Paul Kelly brings honesty and beauty to all that is Australian and presents it in the best way possible, through music. There isn't one song Paul Kelly has written that HASN'T hit home with an Aussie whether they were sitting round the camp fire, enjoying a few beers with mates, or having a cry over someone or something. Paul Kelly paints our landscape with every word and with every note and puts it out there, for all to see

Peter Reidy, Vic
Paul Kelly has been able to generate a continuing commentary of social, geographic, political and emotional lessons that every thinking or dancing human being should revel in. He is a constant in a world of "can’t be bothered", all too hard, do I have to, bullshit. Paul Kelly is an honest and thoughtful performer who has made the musical landscape of this country a richer place to be.

Cat Coghlan, NSW
Paul Kelly sings the stories of Australia – of our happy and sordid past; our heroes, our places, our hopes.  Like no other, he has connected our white and black communities by singing our stories with the utmost respect and understanding.  If it were not for this brilliant, insightful, spiritual man, our country would less clearly recognize itself.
His songs make us laugh and cry; they cross generations and classes; they lift the lowly and shame the proud.  Paul wears his heart on his sleeve.
