Finally, after nearly twenty years being a fan, singing some of her songs at gigs and of waiting for such an opportunity as this (to see and meet k.d.Lang) I finally got through on the phone for the last chance to win a ticket tonight. My heart pounded as I recalled my horoscope for the week...which said to "dream big as one of your biggest dreams will come true this week." This must be it! I thought..so glad I didn't give up trying...I'm through...I've got a one in six chance. I gave my vote to who I thought was the other true long time fan, but his maths was better than mine so he didn't return that favor.(can't blame him really as it may have lessened his own chance) I thank the other contestant who did give me a vote....and say to Nic...."if your car breaks down on the long trip in from Geelong tomorrow....you could always pass it on to someone who gave you a winning vote!" But of course you'll get there. I'm envious and slightly devastated but I wish you and all going a great time.
Sorry, me again. Just thought I'd explain that the audio posted (from a gig) drops halfway then comes back. It was edited to make it shorter for another purpose....and this way the ending could be heard. Thanks. Enjoy!
(I hope)
Annie, so near so far, I hope you still might see her in such a wonderfully intimate performance. Olaf Arnolds did a similar one and it was placed on Radio National's youtube channel, and it's just superb. Living in the cultural black hole of WA, I live in hope, it's all I have because kd won't be coming here in November.
I recommend kd's interview on Fran's Radio National Breakfast program yesterday, the video is available on the ABC site and on youtube. Good luck with the universe.
Thanks Wattlesong ( I like the name...I once taught a song called "Wattle song" to students at Wattle Glen P.S. for the Hurstbridge Wattle Festival here). Yes I heard Fran's interview via k.d.'s facebook site. I loved the way k.d.spontaneously sang a few bars early in the morning. I teach singing at high schools and know how yukky it can feel (and sound) in the morning......but of course, no problem for k.d. It's great thanks to the internet to communicate with people on the other side of this big country. I wish you the best in getting to see her live also. It'll be worth the trip if you have to fly somewhere to see her.
I did see kd live in King's Park about ten years ago, and the kookaburras decided to be her chorus - it was a wonderful, very Australian moment. Her vocal ability continues to mesmerise me. Great hearing music education happening in primary schools, it receives so little support, but is so important for our human development.
I was one of the lucky ones who saw k.d. perform with her new friends last night. What an amazing artist and such a voice. i have sung a couple of her songs after listening to her live NO ONE can do her justice. ABC thank you for such a wonderful night and opportunity to see a truly talented artust.
Many thanks Pattie Pearson
I saw k.d. last night live, and hope that it was as good one air as it was in the studio. Do not miss this broadcast. Lang announced that it was actually their first stage performance together - could have fooled me. They are a tight unit. You could come away thinking that Reminiscing (Little River Band) was perhaps written for her voice. Great match.
I saw k.d last night too. A fantastic, generous performer and the band was rockin! I was one of the lucky ones who got to 'meet and greet' again she was generous and warm. The sound was superb a great venue thanks ABC.
I listened to the show live from the UK and would just like to say how fantastic it was. All those of you who attended-how lucky you were! I really feel for you Annie. Roll on November when k.d. is back in Aus for gigs. Cheers ABC for making it available to for us to hear in England (and all over the world for that matter).
She is an absolute genuine talent, proud to share her with the world, but prouder still she is a Canadian. I have seen her many times in concert, and feel blessed.
