Jeff Beck wants YOU
At Dig Music HQ we're tremendously excited that we've been granted an audience with guitar legend Jeff Beck, but we want to include you too...
Do you have any questions you'd like us to put to the great man?
There's plenty of scope...he's been at the top of the tree since his stint with The Yardbirds back in 1965...and twenty-something albums later, he's mastered the guitar stylings of just about every genre of music.
So there's no shortage of stuff to ask about.
We'll pick what we consider to be the five pithiest queries and put them to Jeff...video of his responses will be posted on this site shortly afterwards.
You've got until close of play on Monday March 29 to send your questions via the comments field below...
...so what are you waiting for?

Hi Jeff,
I saw you live way back in 1978 in Edmonton Canada. I was pretty out of it at the time but I was in row 6 so it was not hard to forget how good that show was!
I was wondering when you and Rod Stewart might get together again and do some of those old blues songs again? I know we've all moved on from that time but it was really so good. I still play Truth and Beckola now and then for my kids...I'm not quite sure what they think of the music but I am still really into it!!

Jeff,
Could you explain why it is important for aging rockers to keep dying their hair?
Hi Jeff. I've been playing guitar my whole life and you've always been my favourite musician. I've seen you a few times and I have to say my favourite band I've seen you with included Tal Wilkenfeld and Vinnie Colaiuta. When I saw you in your recent tour with Eric Clapton you didn't play with them. I was really hoping and wondering if you were going to be doing any more touring with Tal and Vinnie in the next few years? I think your styles compliment each other beautifully. Thank you for continuing to push the boundaries all these years!!!
Who are your favourite contemporary guitarists, and why?
Hallo Mr. Beck,
will you play sometimes in Prague, Czech Republic?
Know some guitarplayers or bends from here?
Than you very much, you are one of few players, who play from The Heart

Hey Jeff! Just wondering if you're going to do any more work with Tal Wilkenfeld and Vinnie Colaiuta, when I saw you guys in Ottawa it changed my life. I know they're going to be on the new album in April, do you think you'll do more together after that?
Thanks for being so awesome :)
Jeff.
Could you tell me, and the rest of the world, what effect units and strings you use? I have seen you play live twice, once in Perth, with Jann Hammer, and last year in Melbourne with your own band. The Melbourne gig was pure wicked. I've been listening to your work since the Yardbird days. It just gets better. Some of the music you made with Rod Stewart is still on high rotation at my house.
Thanks for the thrills.
Shane.
When did you stop using a plectrum to play, and why?
Jeff
Mastery of an instrument is fundamental, but style is important to distinguish one guitarist from another. Have you heard any styles lately that made you sit up and listen?
BTW, saw you in 1977 and for financial reasons I was not stoned. I didn't need to be. Enjoyed every moment of you concert.
What kind of wah/delay/overdrive do you use? What model of Marshall amp are you using? Anything else weird about your rig? Also when are we gonna see more Tal Wilkenfeld playing with you?
Cant wait for the new album! I pre ordered the deluxe edition already :)
A big hello from Australia Jeff Beck, My wife and I cannot wait to see you in Melbourne on the 26th March 2010, Just 3 more sleeps. I was watching a music program (RAGE) on telly one night, a couple years ago, and fell asleep. I woke to the Nadia song and clip. It took me a while to find you but now, I'll never let you go, ever. I liked your experimenting with cars songs, like Roys Toy. My kids are into Jeff Beck, and at 9 and 12 years of age that is saying something. Oh, a question! What songs will you be playing in Melbourne?
Hiya Jeff.
Been a fan for years, just wish my fingers worked like yours.
Are you still into hot rods ? Years ago, a friend of mine Peter bennet ( used to do drag raceing at santa pod )
said you was the first to import a hot rod to this country, do you still have it, and whats your fav american car ?
G'Day Jeff,
So glad to hear of your recent tours of Australia - twice in two years - we're been blessed by you !
I guess Tal and Vinnie needed to do their own thing for a little while, hope they are coming back to play with you next time.
Also very happy to see Narada Michael Walden on this tour .. always wanted to see him come back to Australia since his last time here in 1974 with Mahavishnu Orchestra ... wonderful ..and the days shortly after when you played Sydney with Jan Hammer ...'mazzing stufff !!!
You appear to have great health, any suggestions for guys getting a bit older on the outside ( and younger on the inside ) ?
Wondered what set up you have for your custom Strat ? String guage ? Is it really the same type of neck and parts that make up the Signature model Fender one can buy, or do you have some extra mojo work done on it for your personal needs ?
I noticed last year you looked like using talcum powder on your hands when playing ?
Lookforward to the New CD !
All the Very Best Jeff ...and hope you have a wonderful time in OZ and maybe relax a bit also !!
PS.
Do you take care with your hands ( re.playing guitar) when working on your Rods ?
You have been at the forefront of technical innovation on the electric guitar for over four decades and you are continually exploring new territory as a creative artist. Do you think that the electric guitar has a role in classical music and contemporary ‘art music’ composition in the twenty first century? If so what role do you feel the instrument has and is it a domain which you would like to be a part of?
Zane Banks
Is there anything you would like to be able to play which you are struggling with or have given up on?
Thanks for all the wonderful music over the years.
Hi Dick...I passed on your question...and in return we got ourselves a scoop!...check out the story for more:

Thank you DIG for this great interview; and thank you Jeff - for all the albums, Truth still twists the gut with its intensity; BBB still a seminal album and not dated, the newie is crystal clean and very moving - and for the gigs, 1977, 2009, 2010... thank you, even, to Rod for his incredible vocals on Truth.. Jeff Beck is a true exponent of the 'less is more' school; all the great players can play lots of great stuff - the hard bit is deciding what to leave out. Jeff is there.
