The two best albums of the year are "A Friend of a Friend" by Dave Rawlings Machine, and "Bible Belt" by Diane Birch which is the best soul record since Macy Gray's debut.
I also loved-
"Secret, Profane and Sugarcane" by Elvis Costello.
"Sleeping Patterns" by Jordie Lane
"Privileged Woes" by Oh Mercy
Midnight at the Movies by Justin Townes Earle
"Already Free" by Derek Trucks
" Live at Austin" by the Drive By Truckers
"Monsters of Folk".
I love dig radio but the Tom Waits album was pure shit......awful stuff..if that was not bad enough the week leading up to Waits album was the Verses..again just terrible.....and them introducing the songs of the album really grated after awhile. I'm sure they are nice people but please..........But DIG Radio is usually just freaking awesome.
Couldn't be presumptuous enough to say that I can say the album of the year as there's heaps that I've missed no doubt!
Ones that I've enjoyed are:
Nothing Gold Can Stay - The Duke and the King
To Be Still - Adela Diane
Killingsworth - The Minus 5
Middle Cyclone - Neko Case
I ABSOLUTELY AGREE. The most irritating album Dig has ever played. I had to turn the volume down each time it was played.
c'mon dig, get with it! the top 5 are most certainly:
The xx - Xx
Animal Collective β Merriweather Post Pavilion
Grizzly Bear - Veckatimest
Fever Ray β Fever Ray
Florence and the Machine - Lungs
Love the station. LegsyBoy's Big Ones (Top 10) for 2009:
Federico Aubele - Amatoria
Wilco - Wilco (The Album)
Chumbawamba - The Boy Bands Have Won
Raphael Saadiq - The Way I See It
The Unthanks - Here's The Tender Coming
Raul Malo - Lucky One
Bill Callahan - Sometimes I Wish We Were An Eagle
Mumford & Sons - Sigh No More
The Duke & The King - Nothing Gold Can Stay
Diane Birch - Bible Belt
Neko Case, Wilco, Phoenix, Bill Callahan, Antony Hegarty, Flaming Lips, Camera Obscura, Kurt Vile, The Low Anthem
Sarah Blasko - As Day Follows Night
CW Stoneking - Jungle Blues
Ladyhawke - Ladyhawke
Temper Trap - Conditions
M. Ward - Hold Time
Passion Pit - Manners
God Help The Girl - God Help The Girl
Bat For Lashes - Two Suns
Neko Case - Middle Cyclone
The Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Itβs Blitz!
The Decemberists - Hazards of Love
Sorry. Bob Dylan = overrated
I don't have an issue with the albums selected but I would have liked to have seen these albums listed as well, though what I would have removed to find room for them is too hard for me,
Animal Collective β Merriweather Post Pavilion
Elvis Costello - Secret, Profane and Sugarcane
Grizzly Bear - Veckatimest
I LOVE the Sarah Blasko album. That's all I need on my list!
eilen jewell 'sea of tears' jumped out at me every time you played a track. Thanks for introducing it Dig.
I'd endorse Grizzly Bear (not sure if it's diggish?) - and the Tom Waits live record was entertaining if not essential.
Pretty good range of music there. I'd add Ramblin' Jack's A Stranger Here to the list. Saw he won a Grammy for it recently too. Did Justin Townes Earle's Midnight at the Movies get a running on dig? Think so. That's a beauty as well.
