Melbourne International Jazz Festival 2009
US jazz legend Charlie Haden, Grammy Award-winning guitarist Bill Frisell, free jazz star Cecil Taylor, saxophonist Joshua Redman and Wilco's Nels Cline lead the international line-up.
From closer to home, names include Paul Grabowsky, Jamie Oehlers, Katie Noonan, Kate Ceberano and The Choir of Hard Knocks.
Festivities commence with a free Opening Night concert at Federation Square (Sunday 26 April) featuring the 1930s sounds of the Mell-O-Tones swing orchestra, Actis Dato (Italy) and the Festival's artist-in-residence, jazz icon Charlie Haden and his Liberation Music Orchestra.
Haden will contribute to masterclasses, Q&A sessions and collaborations with other seminal jazz masters throughout the week.
Free concerts continue every day of the Festival at Federation Square (12pm and 5pm) - catch Australian acts such as The Hoodangers, Virus, The Vampires, Flap!, Melbourne Jazz Ensemble and VCA Jazz Ensemble.

Artist Biography
Charles Edward Haden (born August 6, 1937) is an American jazz musician. He is a double bassist, probably best known for his long association with saxophonist Ornette Coleman. Haden is also known for his signature lyrical bass lines and is one of the most respected bassists and jazz composers today.
