Sarah Elizabeth Blaskow (born 23 September 1976, Sydney, New South Wales), is an Australian singer-songwriter and musician. After fronting Sydney-based band Acquiesce from the mid-1990s, Blasko developed her solo career from 2002. In 2007, she won the 'Best Pop Release' for What the Sea Wants, the Sea Will Have at the ARIA Music Awards. Her latest album, As Day Follows Night, won the 'Best Female Artist' at the 2009 ARIA Awards.

    Really don't mind Blasko, but can someone tell me why there seems to be a trend of these similar sounding artists, like Holly Throsby (who even looks the same) and Lisa Mitchell?

    Is this a particular genre or style of vocalisation (young soft-spoken sounding girl) or a particular producer that has hit on this formula?

    NB: I am definitely not knocking them - I even own Lisa Mitchell's debut CD.

    Flames Trees is one of the most beautifully perfect songs ever written; lyrics, music and the expression of emotion as performed by Cold Chisel. The Blasko version is insipid, like someone singing to themselves mindlessly while performing a mundane task (like washing the dishes, or pulling weeds in the garden).
    If you ever want to play this song again, it should only ever be by Cold Chisel. Thank you.
